Purpose
The CFGS 2026 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition challenges graduate students to present their research in three minutes or less while using one static slide in a way that is clear, concise, and engaging for a non-specialist audience. After reading this webpage, click here to sign up!
Eligibility
- Participants must be currently enrolled graduate students.
- Presentations must be based on the student’s own research.
Time Limit
- Presentations must not exceed three minutes.
- Presentations are timed from when presenters start their presentation through either movement or speech.
- Exceeding the time limit results in disqualification.
Slide Requirements
- One static PowerPoint slide only (no animations, transitions, videos, or audio).
- The slide’s ratio must be 16:9.
- No props or additional materials are allowed.
Presentation Style Requirements
- Spoken word only — no poems, songs, or raps.
- No additional electronic media (sound or video files, for example) or costumes.
- No reading from notes or scripts.
Language Requirement
- Presentations must be in English
