No, postdocs are not eligible for adoption benefits. If adopting a child, postdocs are eligible for parental leave via the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which is unpaid leave. Postdoc associates may use accrued postdoc leave (which is paid time off) while on FMLA leave.

After termination of employment, postdocs are eligible for COBRA (Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act) insurance. After their termination date, postdocs will receive a COBRA information packet in the mail, so they must make sure their “Local Home Mailing Address” is up-to-date in the University of Florida directory.
