Shared Governance
Joint administrator, faculty, and student representation governs graduate education at UF.
Stewardship of graduate education at the University of Florida is an exercise in shared governance in which administration, faculty, and student representatives take active part under the aegis of the UF Graduate School and campus partners.
Two bodies on campus exercise that shared governance — the Graduate Council and the Graduate Curriculum Committee:
- The Graduate Council acts as an agent of UF’s graduate faculty to assist the UF Graduate School Dean in determining and carrying out policy related to graduate education and research at UF. Its membership includes the Graduate School Dean (who serves as chair), six graduate faculty appointed by the UF Provost, six elected by UF’s graduate faculty, and a doctoral student selected by the UF Graduate Student Council (along with a student alternate).
- The Graduate Curriculum Committee considers all requests for new graduate courses and changes to graduate courses, curricula, and catalog listings. Its membership includes six graduate faculty appointed by the UF Office of the President, six graduate faculty elected by the UF Faculty Senate, and two members selected by the UF Graduate Student Council.
