Scholarship-supported and part-time, the Internship Initiative gives you opportunity to flex your graduate-level training outside the classroom and make a difference by applying it to real-life community needs. Along the way, you’ll receive one-on-one mentorship, build practical skills, and expand your professional network — all pluses that add to your career growth!

Who is eligible for the Internship Initiative?
Any UF graduate student enrolled for the duration of the internship is eligible for this program. Acceptance is contingent upon a letter from your advisor or graduate coordination, confirming your good academic standing.
How much are interns paid?
Selected graduate student will receive a $4,000 scholarship award for their work. An additional financial award from the sponsoring organization is also possible.
How are applications evaluated?
Representatives from both the UF Graduate School and the host organization will review your application to determine how well it fits with the sponsor’s mission, the project available, and the aims of the Internship Initiative program.

What kind of projects are eligible for this program?
Any project that engages the knowledge and skills of graduate students, offers tangible outcomes in a window of six to eight weeks, and helps interns to grow professionally.

Gainesville’s Matheson History Museum partners with our Internship Initiative program. As a Museum Education Intern, you’ll work closely from the end of April through July with the Matheson’s Education Coordinator and Executive Director to design and implement its summer camp program while helping to advance the museum’s overall mission.
