Welcome — And Welcome Back!
Dean Stedman’s musings at the start of the 2026-2027 academic year
Dear Students, Postdocs, Faculty, Administrators, and Staff,
After summer’s sparser numbers and emptier campus, we at the Graduate School sure are glad to see you — whether you’re a new arrival or returning from a bit of a break. It’s nice to see our alma mater coming back to life with more Gators and the phenomenal energy they bring to our shared life in higher education.
Of course, this summer’s big news was that the University of Florida gained a new president — Dr. Stuart R. Bell. We welcome him with open arms and wish him every success in leading our top-notch educational enterprise into a new era.
Our Graduate School has had its share of summertime news too. Team Grad School welcomed newcomers into its ranks: Chelsi Colleton (who will coordinate graduate fellowships and awards), Isabell Concepcion (who will provide executive support in our Dean’s Office), Neil Rodriguez (who joins our Academic Career Tracking crew), Dr. Valli Sarveswaran (who will direct our Office of Postdoctoral Affairs), and Angelica Viera (the new friendly face gracing our reception desk in Grinter Hall).
All five bring to our Graduate School gifts, skills, and experience that will advance our mission — creating and curating conditions that enable success for you, whether you’re a student, postdoc, faculty member, administrator, or staff person.
Other big news: Our Graduate School now has a brand-new website! Special shoutout to teammates Gregory Orloff and Dr. Christine Krebs for months of toil spent harmonizing a number of unit-driven websites into one cohesive, coherent whole. Check out the stellar outcome at grad.ufl.edu.
At the Graduate School, we’re poised to get the new academic year off to a good start — and we hope you are too. Work hard, take time out to have fun, and please do make the most of the resources, services, and support we put at your fingertips to help you succeed. We’re all in this together — and the Graduate School is here for you!
Go Gators!
