The application cycle for the Ewel Fellowship runs every two years.

To apply for it, you will need to..
- Find a University of Florida faculty sponsor.
- Create a proposal.
- Obtain a letter of support from your UF sponsor.
- Submit a completed application packet.
Click these links for more details on each step in the process of applying for the next Ewel Fellowship.
Start by identifying and establishing a relationship with a UF faculty member who will host your research.
This faculty member will be your mentor as a fellow and will provide office space, lab space (if required), basic administrative support, and any other research support needed to meet the objectives of your proposal. Your mentor will work with you to develop an individual plan that aligns with UF“s policies on postdoctoral mentorship.
To identify a faculty member with whom you wish to work, search out academic departments and interdisciplinary unites — such as centers and institutes — for faculty members who share your research interests. The UF Office of Postdoctoral Affairs cannot help with finding mentors.
Your research proposal describes your project, the research that you will do, and the training that you will receive during your fellowship. In it, include...
- A brief introduction.
- A statement of your research objectives and methods.
- A description of your research’s significance and potential impact.
- A timeline and work plan for the two-year fellowship period.
- Your training objectives.
- An explanation of how this fellowship will enhance your career goals.
- Your rationale for your choice of your UF mentor.
The letter of support from your UF mentor ought to include:
- A brief description of your mentor’s research and how your research and training plan fits with it. (Bear in mind that the intent of the Ewel Fellowship is to support original research that you propose independently in collaboration with your mentor.)
- A description of the mentor’s role in your training.
- Confirmation that the mentor is prepared to provide you with appropriate office space (and laboratory space, if needed), along with tangible resources to conduct your research. (The yearly allowance portion of the fellowship is not intended as full support of research costs.)
- A two-page résumé of publications relevant to your proposed research.
Your completed application packet will include the Ewel Fellowship Application along with all required documents emailed as a single PDF file. You can submit your mentor’s letter of support as part of that single PDF file, or your mentor can email it separately.
